James W. Kelley

SAVANNAH - James William Kelley of Savannah died September 29, 2015. He was 91 years old.
Born and raised in Savannah, Mr. Kelley was the son of Francis and Elizabeth Kelley. He attended Marist Brothers School and graduated from Savannah High School. Mr. Kelley enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 18, serving in the 4th Marine Division as a radio operator during World War II. He was assigned to the Pacific Theater, where he earned the Bronze and Silver Stars. After completing his military service, Mr. Kelley returned to Savannah, where he began a career with Bell South and met and married Mary Leggett, to whom he was married for 66 years.
Mr. Kelley retired as a manager with AT&T. In retirement, he stayed active in volunteer service, including installing Lifeline emergency alert devices for Candler Hospital and lending a helping hand in many church activities at Nativity and St. Peter the Apostle parishes, among others. He served as Past National President of the 4th Marine Alumni Division, was a member for many years of the Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, and a member of Post 184 of the American Legion.
Mr. Kelley is survived by his wife, Mary L. Kelley; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Helen Kelley; nephews Joe Kelley, Sean Kelley and Balder Elmgren; nieces Ginger Best and Mary Burch; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; an aunt and uncle, Elizabeth and Albert Hirt; a sister, Mary Frances Kelley; and a brother, Eugene Joseph Kelley.
A funeral mass for Mr. Kelley will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island. A brief visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. The family requests that instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Savannah or your charity of choice in memory of James W. Kelley.

So sorry for your loss. My Dad also died at 91 years old in 2012, served in the Army was in the Pacific in WWII, and earned the Bronze star. So proud of them! My Dad will welcome him to heaven with open arms.
